Body Language

Only yesterday I was plucking out clothes from my wardrobe, squinting and screwing up my face as my beloved belogings were strewn across my bed, all the while I was thinking do they even suit me.  I'm like most shopaholics, I see something and I buy it!  I will think about the price later.  In fact, I have been known to hide the recepits – looking at those multipe figure tags can leave an unsettling feeling in my stomach.  Hey ho, it makes my bum look small so who cares right?

I am firm believer in understanding and knowing your body shape.  Confidence I am afraid can come at a price.  Let's be honest, how many times times have you looked at what another girl has on and thought 'Dear God, that really doesn't suit her'.  Sure, she's happy and thinks she looks amazing but I am a realist – if your clothes don't flatter your body shape then avoid them.

It's time talk body language.  I have split the most common female shapes and sizes below.  All you have to do is figure out which one most resembles you and use it as a guide.  Just a note, there isn't a woman in the world that doesn't have an insecurity.  Flaunt your best bits – we all have them.

The Boy

So for those of you who are lucky enough to have a figure that matches lovely Kate Moss here then you will find that you can get away with wearing pretty much anything.  This figure is like a 'slim rectangle'.  Typically small frame, small shoulders, little waist and a flat chest.

Depending on your confidence you can go for oversized or figure hugging.  Just make sure you don't look like your jumper is drowning you.  If you are wearing a loose top go for a pair of skinny jeans or leggings underneath to even out the outfit.  There are some really cute dresses at Famousfrocks.com and an absolute favourite of mine for the oversized look Me+Em

If you have a figure like Rhianna you are most likely to have a smaller chest and a bigger bottom.  Typically, I would say that you are a 'triangle' in shape.  Smaller shoulders, around a B/C cup and wider around the waist and bottom.  You have the privilage of wearing sexy low cut tops and having the 'wow' bum to go with it.

It might be best to avoid clothes that accentuate your hips too much.  So avoiding details around the hips like big pockets, flappy emroidery, zips etc.  Instead, get the attention more focussed on your top half.  Wear fitted, low cut tops, break up your shape with a belt and wear a-line skirts to give a balanced look. Wear items of jewellery or a scarf around the neck depending on where you want to draw the eye.  Have a sneak peak at House of Fraser, they have some amazing outfits right now.

Betty Boo

Kim Kardashian is top heavy, curvy but a smaller bottom.  Her figure would resemble an 'upside down triangle'.  Don't go too low on top, keep it classy.  Instead wear clothes that show off your curves.

This figure will normally be broader shoulders, bigger bust, narrow hips, small but and thin legs.  First things first, get your bust measured and wear the right bra.  I recently had my fitting done at La Senza  and it made the world of difference.

You can wear darker colours on top and lighter on the bottom to draw the eye to your lower half.  Wear tops that hit the hip to show a more even figure.  Avoid low v-necks, go for round necks and really exaggerate on your lovely legs and bottom.

Curve-a-licisous

Beyonce has an amazing curvaceous figure,  She resembles an hour-glass, so big busted, small waist, larger hips and a nice sized bottom.  For the slimming effect show off the legs and cleavage.

Try to avoid clothing that is too tight fitted or very loose.  This will not flatter your figure.  Wrap dresses will look beautiful on you.

Wear jumpers that drape well across your top half.  Have a look at dresses by Zeynep Kartal (absolutely stunning) and for anything else check out Selfridges.

Super Athletic

If your as toned and athletic as Pink then first and foremost, I envy you.  Pink has a broad 'rectangle' shape.  Small bust, wide shoulders and narrow hips. Go for tailored tops, shirts and blazers,

Cropped trousers, high heels will bring attention to your legs.  Try to avoid over sized loose clothing, go for a good snug fit.

Try to stay away from baggy bottom and flares.  Have a look at Mango, Zara and ASOS - they have clothes to suit any lady and especially cater for the sophisticated tailored look.
