What do you love about fashion?

I love how fashion has such an influential impact on our lives. Whether we intend it to or not, what we wear makes a powerful statement about our style; our personality; our daily life. I also love the ideal of having / achieving iconic style or je ne sais quoi {something special you cannot quite place}. "Over the years I have learned that what is important in a dress is the woman who is wearing it.” — Yves Saint-Laurent

How does fashion resonate in your work?

Yves Saint Laurent also said: "Fashions fade, style is eternal”. I believe style, extends beyond just what we wear. It is also what we surround ourselves with and our environment. I like to create pieces which evoke particular emotions and instantly transport the audience to a specific time and place. For me timeless personal style is the ultimate starting off point to create an extraordinary ‘world’ within my artworks. What my leading lady is wearing is an invaluable story teller as I am able to set-the-scene and create an experience for my audience. For me this all stems from immaculate style.

What has been your most difficult piece to work on?

The most difficult piece so far has been ‘One Day In Manhattan’. This was the case as I was the ‘client’, creating a piece for my own home. I knew the main colours I wanted to capture; the era I wanted to bring alive; but most importantly I knew the feeling I wanted this piece to create in my home, so I was very particular about each detail.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

Fashion; Stylish Iconic women {Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Marilyn Monroe to name but a few}; Travel; Film; Photography; Old Magazine Covers and Movie Posters; Architecture and Interiors; Delicious food {particularly desserts as I have a sweet tooth}… anything and everything really.
