Colouring Asian hair right…

Every girl needs to feel pampered, and there's nothing quite like getting your hair done to feel that extra bit special. I have to say, I have spent a lot of money on my hair in the past, but often I have felt disappointed when I have finally got round to colouring.

Asian hair, particularly dark brown/black is very difficult to lift. I haven't actually been able to find a hair salon that has perfected colouring 'Asian' hair so when I heard about Hair by Charlotte based in Salford, I was curious to find out what all the hype was about.

I popped in for a quick colour test a week earlier and eagerly booked in with head stylist, Charlotte. I explained I didn't want my hair to look red/orange – all to often, Asian hair because it's so warm in colour can dye a terrible bright orange tinge. Anything to avoid looking like a Jaffa Cake and I'm there!

So, I went for the Hollywood colour blend. Get your magazines at the ready and phone fully charged, this isn't for the faint hearted.

The process takes about 4 hours, maybe a bit longer depending on the length. My hair was divided into sections, lifted and then washed.

The next bit is where it gets interesting. It was the first time between 4-6 different blends of brown/blondes were popped onto my hair. The result was pretty unbelievable. Not a single orange hair in sight!

For the first time my hair was coloured beautifully. This technique of colouring is also cost effective. My roots only went one shade darker, the rest of my hair as you can see from the pictures went gradually lighter towards the ends. That means I can wait up to 6 months before going back to have it coloured again.

Also, after just having a baby, my hair was in need of some serious TLC. I barely had time to comb it so as you can see Charlotte clearly worked her magic. Check out Charlottes Instagram for more examples of her work at @hair_by_charlotte or call the salon on 0161-657-0858
