How to create Kate Middleton’s look for less

The Duchess of Cambridge is constantly making headlines for her elegant yet wearable style.

Recreating Kate’s look sounds expensive but luckily for us, internet shopping means looking like royalty has never been so cheap and easy.

Here experts from leading shopping and hair and beauty websites explain how we can all look like a princess without marrying a prince.

1.    Save money on High Street fashion with discount codes

Being royal does not mean that Kate limits her shopping to just the high end designers.

Kate was spotted wearing a polka dot Topshop dress to visit the Harry Potter studios, a red Zara blazer to watch the Olympic swimming finals and a beige bandage dress from Reiss to meet Barack and Michelle Obama.

Janeen Shears, from says: “Buying classic, yet formal pieces from the High Street will make you look more like the Duchess in no time at all.”

2.    Shop in the sales

Buy discounted tailored items in the sale. Tailored items can be expensive but buying them at a discount is acceptable because it saves money and formal wear rarely looks outdated.

Janeen Shears adds: “Kate loves saving money just like the rest of us. She has been spotted wearing a reduced L.K. Bennett Jude tailored jacket and a Hobbs dress which she wore in summer 2012 which was reduced from £119 to £35 – bargain.”

3.    Re-wear clothes

There is a lot of shock caused when a celebrity wears the same item of clothing more than once but Kate Middleton does not appear to mind.

Kate has been seen wearing the same clothing on numerous occasions. She wore the same white Reiss dress for her first official engagement portrait photo that she wore to Canada Day in 2011. She has also worn the same Jane Troughton coat on more than one occasion, styling it with a different dress, bag, shoes and hat.

Janeen Shears says: “Don’t be afraid to re-wear clothes, just choose different accessories to give your outfit a unique look.”

4.    Shoes

It’s not just clothes that Kate re-wears from the High Street. The infamous L.K. Bennett nude court shoe was spotted on Kate numerous times on her trip to Canada and caused an influx in sales.

Janeen Shears adds: “There are many similar versions on the High Street and the shoes can be worn again and again with so many outfits.”

5.    Hair serum

To achieve Kate’s trademark shiny locks, use hair serum. Kate never has a hair out of place and her hair always looks healthy and luxurious.

Laura Meredith of says: “Hair serum adds shine to hair, giving you a salon professional finish without having to pay for a hair stylist. To recreate the look, apply the serum on damp hair to eliminate frizz.”

6.    Bronzer

Kate always seems to have a sun-kissed look so to recreate the look try wearing a bronzer rather than spending loads of money on a holiday in the sun.

Laura Meredith adds: “Bronzer will keep skin looking radiant like Kate’s and will add a warm glow to skin, making it look healthier and happier. Simply apply it on the areas of your face that usually catch the shadow and under cheekbones to add shape and definition.”

7.    Gel nails

Meeting and greeting people means that Kate will always need perfect nails.

Laura Meredith adds: “Gel nails have been proven to last up to two weeks without chipping so book yourself in for a manicure or, to save money, you can do it yourself at home. Buy an LED nail lamp, some gel nail varnish and a sealer for a salon professional look.”
