The French: The review

This weekend I teased my taste buds and dined at the exquisite Michelin star restaurant 'The French'.

Award winning Chef Simon Rogan has well and truly put his stamp on creating the perfect Great British menu – if only the pictures were to do it justice.

Nestled away in Manchester's Midlands Hotel, the grand entrance opens up to a neatly tucked away culinary gem.

My first impressions, relaxed and inviting. The decor is grand, tables wooden and homely. A medium sized circular room with tables dotted around with just enough space between them to create a really private dining experience. The sound of the piano hummed just in ear-shot creating a peaceful laid back atmosphere.

Let's get to the juicy part – the food! I was served a 10 course taster menu, an explosion of flavours that complimented each other – this type of food has some serious synergy. It was hard to describe whether I should eat the food of admire it from a distance. I opted for the fish and vegetarian menu and lapped up the cocktails that went incredibly well with the different dishes.

Dining at The French isn't like your run of the mill restaurant. Every single dish is so eloquently prepared with just the right amount of time before the next mini edible 'work of art' is carried out to your table. The staff were very friendly and the service was second to none.

The food is exquisite, beautiful contrasting flavours hot and cold. My favourite had to be the desert 'sweet chestnut with blackberry, oats and douglas fir milk followed by Sass and Soda.

The French has topped my favourite place to dine in 2015 and it will be hard to see if any others can rival it. To make a booking reservation visit www.the-French.co.uk
